Harapan candidate vows to uphold Lee’s legacy, plans in Kuala Kubu Baharu

HULU SELANGOR, Apr 27 — Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election Pang Sock Tao has pledged to pick up where her predecessor left off if she is voted in, as the campaigning period kicks off today.

She vowed to continue the development plans and agenda started by the late Lee Kee Hiong, a three-term assemblyman who died on March 21 after succumbing to cancer.

The 31-year-old said she is fully committed to focusing on the two-week campaigning beginning today and upholding Lee’s legacy.

“The Unity Government represents all races, and we begin our campaign with humility and respect for everyone.

“If given the mandate, I will uphold the (Kuala Kubu Baharu’s) development plans and agenda set forth by Lee,” she told reporters at the Hulu Selangor Multipurpose Hall and District Sports Complex after the nomination process, here, today.

Pang said youth and women’s welfare will also be at the forefront of her focus if she is elected, pointing out that they are issues that are close to her heart.

“These will certainly be included as part of my manifesto, which will be launched soon,” she said.

Asked about criticisms being levelled against her for her past comments on Barisan Nasional (BN), Pang said with the parties now together in the Unity Government, her main priority is to focus on the campaign.

“Now that the Unity Government has been formed, I, as the candidate (for the by-election), will ensure that we work as a team.

“I will focus on the Kuala Kubu Baharu campaign and deliver the agendas in my manifesto,” she said.

The 14-day campaigning period begins today following the conclusion of the nomination process this morning, and ends at 11.59pm on May 10.

Polling day is set for May 11, while early voting is scheduled for May 7.
