KLANG, April 16 — Meru state assemblyman Mariam Abdul Rashid spent more than RM60,000 during this year’s Ramadan fasting month on mosques and suraus and on providing food basket assistance.

Her team distributed RM1,000 to 36 suraus, while four mosques received RM2,000 each to carry out religious activities.

“We also allocated a sum of money to provide food baskets to 50 asnaf (tithe recipients) as a measure to ease their financial burdens and to fulfil their Hari Raya Aidilfitri needs.

“Simultaneously, we also organised iftar programmes with the residents. Besides breaking fast together, the programme also brings leaders closer to the community,” she said at the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah affordable basic necessities sales programme for her constituency today.

For this year, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, has allocated RM4 million to realise the Ihya Ramadan programme, which include contributions to mosques, suraus, the asnaf, and to organise iftar gatherings.
