Muhammad Azeem, co dash to 4x100m victory in Florida

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — National sprint sensation Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi produced another splendid show of speed to help his Auburn University’s men’s 4x100m quartet to victory in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational Athletics Championships 2024 in Gainesville, Florida, the United States yesterday.

The winner of the men’s 100m bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in China and his teammates Favour Ashe, Dario Matau, and Kanyinsola Ajayi, clocked 38.64s, which also happens to be their season-best, to clinch gold, according to the NYRR Millrose Games website.

The Louisiana State University (LSU) quartet of Myles Thomas, Shakeem McKay, Da’Marcus Fleming, and Godson Oghenebrume came in second in 38.93s.

The University of Kentucky, represented by Shavique Bascus, Clinton Muunga, Miles Jones, and Kennedy Lightner, settled for bronze after clocking 38.96s.

This is Azeem’s second win with the Auburn University quartet in the past month, having also emerged victorious with a time of 38.74s at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Championships in Georgia Tech, Georgia.

However, the 19-year-old Malaysian failed to turn on the style in the 100m event in Florida when he could only finish seventh in heat two after clocking 10.44s to be placed 22nd out of 75 runners.

This contrasts the 10.38s he clocked en route to winning bronze at the Yellow Jacket Invitational last month.
