No decision yet on Kuala Kubu Baharu candidate, says state DAP

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, April 5 — Selangor DAP has yet to decide on who will be its choice of candidate for the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Its state secretary Ng Sze Han said the party has a plethora of local leaders that are capable of filling up the vacancy, including those from other chapters in the state, but stressed that the issue of candidacy has yet to be finalised.

“At the moment, state leaders have yet to meet and discuss the matter but we have been on the ground to help with preparations, which have been ongoing extensively.

“Having said that, we have choices from among local leaders in Kuala Kubu Baharu and even from other parts of Selangor,” he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said that the coalition would convene a meeting soon to discuss matters related to the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election and finalise a suitable candidate

Saifuddin said he would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Harapan chairman, to determine the nearest date for holding the meeting.

He added that the meeting would finalise which party will contest in the poll as well as consider a list of candidates.

Meanwhile, Ng said DAP intends to build momentum for the by-election by leveraging the legacy of its incumbent, the late Lee Kee Hiong, who died on March 21 after succumbing to cancer.

He noted that Lee, who had served Kuala Kubu Baharu since 2013, was well loved by the constituents there.

Despite her illness and tragic death, Ng said her officers and service centre have been operating as per usual to serve the constituency.

“When I paid a call to the area recently, I noticed many of her constituents visiting her service centre and expressed their sadness over her passing,” he said.
