SHAH ALAM, April 5 — In the first 14 days of the fasting month, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had collected a whopping 7,176.4kg of excess food and drinks from Ramadan bazaars that were distributed to those in need.

The local authority said the MySave Food@Bazar Ramadan initiative was held every Monday to Friday from March 14 to April 3.

It involved three bazaars under its jurisdiction, namely in Seksyen 13, Seksyen 17 and Seksyen 19.

“Among the types of food that we received the most throughout the programme were assorted kuih, sweet drinks, various types of rice and noodle dishes, porridge and cooked dishes (lauk pauk).

“The programme garnered tremendous support from traders at the three bazaars, who donated their unsold food and drinks.

“These items were then distributed to those in need, including higher education students, mosques, suraus, and residents of low-cost flats,” it said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The MySave Food programme is an MBSA initiative to reduce food wastage at Ramadan bazaars, while simultaneously helping underprivileged groups.

Meanwhile, the local council expressed its gratitude to traders who contributed food, as well as to volunteers who participated in the programme, ensuring its success.
