PJD Link cancellation: Govt to send official notice to developer soon

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — The developer of the Petaling Jaya Dispersal (PJD) Link highway will receive an official letter soon notifying them of the cancellation of the construction project.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this follows the Cabinet’s decision yesterday to halt the construction of the contentious project.

“As mentioned by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil yesterday, the Cabinet’s decision confirms the cancellation of the PJD Link project. It is noted that the project was terminated due to a deadline.

“It failed to meet the required conditions according to the stipulated period. Therefore, it has been automatically cancelled,” he told the media during an Aidilfitri event by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at CIDB Convention Centre, here, today.

Nanta said as of now, it is uncertain whether the government needs to compensate the developer for the cancellation.

Meanwhile, PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd, in a statement earlier, said the company noted the Cabinet’s announcement on the project and is awaiting official notification from the government.

“The unfulfilled conditions as mentioned by the honourable Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil were, in fact, due to the conditions precedent (CP) which had taken longer than expected due to the complexity of the project.

“We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to address any misconceptions surrounding PJD Link and engage in ongoing discussions about this vital infrastructure project, which promises significant and enduring socioeconomic advantages,” read the statement.

Yesterday, Fahmi announced that the Cabinet had decided that the construction of PJD Link would not proceed after its developer, PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd, failed to fulfil several conditions.
