Selangor targets four cities in China to boost tourist numbers

SHAH ALAM, Apr 1 — Tourism Selangor embarked on a promotional tour across four cities in China last month to draw more international tourists to the state.

It said the sales mission to Dalian, Shenyang, Changchun, and Harbin from March 17 to March 26 is part of its effort to attract seven million visitors next year, in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025.

“These cities, boasting a combined population exceeding 25 million, have gathered over 500 potential buyers and travel agents.

“This mission has provided a platform for the tourism product operators from Selangor to present their offerings, aiming to tap into the vast market potential,” Tourism Selangor said in a statement today.

The sales mission was led by the state executive councillor for tourism Ng Suee Lim, and included a delegation from Tourism Malaysia.

In line with Selangor’s tourism promotional campaign ‘Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!’, the sales mission is conducted in collaboration with several major Chinese tourism agencies.

They include the Dalian Tourism Committee and Development Association, the Heilongjiang Foreign Affairs Office, and the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

Tourism Selangor also partnered with Tourism Malaysia’s Beijing and Shanghai bases to target more direct flight arrivals from China via Malaysian and Chinese airlines, including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Air, Loong Air, and Spring Airlines.

Currently, approximately 327 flights are scheduled between Malaysia and China each week.

“This partnership is expected to open new avenues for promotional activities, including familiarisation trips, content marketing and business-to-business opportunities, further solidifying Selangor’s position in the Chinese market,” it said.
