UNDP, Malaysia continue collaboration to enhance legislative institutions; develop talents, youths

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The Malaysian Parliament and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have agreed to expand cooperation following the success of collaborations from 2019 to 2023.

The Office of Dewan Rakyat Speaker said the cooperation includes the Special Select Committee system in the Dewan Rakyat, the strengthening of legislative institutions, capacity building and youth development until 2025.

“The renewal of cooperation was discussed by UNDP Associate Administrator Xu Haoliang, who paid a courtesy call to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul in Parliament during his visit to Malaysia today.

“In their talks, Johari and Xu engaged in discussions that yielded positive results in various fields, particularly on the strengthening of the governance system and the empowerment of Parliament as well as issues of the environment, climate change, and poverty,” it said in a statement today.

UNDP is an organisation that collaborates with various international, regional, and national stakeholders to support Malaysia’s development.

Xu is scheduled to meet Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli; Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, and Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Liew Chin Tong, starting today until April 18.
