SHAH ALAM, May 6 — Pakatan Harapan’s campaign manager for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election has said the coalition never authorised using the King of Malaysia’s image for their political campaigns.

This is after two men displayed His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim’s picture on a vehicle during campaigning over the weekend.

Ng Sze Han said such an incident should not have occurred and that he would cooperate with the local authorities on the matter.

“As Harapan’s campaign manager for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, I would like to stress that we have never ordered or allowed any of our volunteers to conduct such an act.

“The use of the King’s picture in a political campaign is unreasonable and should not have happened,” he said in a statement today.

Ng’s statement came after the police arrested two individuals and seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle yesterday for displaying Sultan Ibrahim’s image while campaigning.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim confirmed the arrests on the same day. The vehicle reportedly bore a Harapan flag.

Today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said both individuals, aged 66, will be charged at the Kuala Kubu Baharu Magistrate’s Court.

“The charges against the two men were filed after investigation papers were submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office yesterday,” he said.

The charges would be brought under Section 4A (1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, for malicious intent.

Following the incident, Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari urged all parties to allow the police to conduct their investigations and not speculate on the case.

“I urge for an investigation to be conducted. Perhaps their intentions were different, but their motives must be thoroughly probed,” he told the press after an event yesterday.
