BR1M’s distribution troublesome for rakyat

BY: NORHAYATI UMOR
SHAH ALAM, MAR 10: The government led by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak which distributed the Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M) aid ‘manually’ (voucher) caused a lot of trouble to the people especially the elderly, senior citizens and the disabled.
KEADILAN Youth Strategy Director, Akmal Nasir said, Barisan Nasional (BN) must re-evaluate the BR1M distribution mechanism.
He also queried if the ‘manual’ distribution was done on purpose in view that it is now close to elections.

“If this is true, then this is a tragedy by Umno-BN’s political rapacity to manipulate the poor citizens for their political gain,” he said in a statement.
A news had gone viral on social media where an old woman who lives in Setiawan, Perak was asked to collect the voucher in Ipoh which is about 80 kilometres from where she lives.
The old lady had to opt not to collect the voucher due to the long distance.
Akmal said BN must revert to their primary purpose in extending BR1M to citizens.
“This initiative is to reduce the people’s burden but if the process is troublesome, then it is back to burdening the citizens.
“The government do not need to torment citizens by asking them to go into long queues and big crowds just to collect the voucher.
“This process is backward and troublesome especially to elderly recipients,” he said.
