BY ERMIZI MUHAMAD
SHAH ALAM, MAY 17: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has drawn up an Anti-Corruption Strategic Plan (PSPR) for 2017-2019 as a guideline to address any corruption in its administration.
Its Mayor, Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said the plan is being jointly drawn up with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by referring to the issues and challenges faced by civil servants currently.
“In fact, in preparing the plan, MBSA’s workforce is also simultaneously exposed and educated not to get themselves involved with corruption and power abuse which could tarnish the organisation’s image.
“As a responsible civil servant, we must hold on to the principles and ethics that will prevent us from being involved with corruption.
“Therefore, it is important that civil servants hold on to the concept of truthfulness to obtain blessings in life,” he said.
He said that in his speech at the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) Signing Ceremony with MACC at MBSA Auditorium this morning.
The IBR swearing and signing ceremony was witnessed by Selangor MACC’s Commissioner, Dato’ Wan Ramli Wan Abdullah.
Ahmad Zaharin had led 500 MBSA staff to read the IBR vows as a commitment to fight corruption in their task and service with the agency.
IBR was implemented as an initiative to create awareness and understanding on integrity in service and to increase the commitment from MBSA’s staff in their roles to prevent corruption.
In the meantime, Zaharin reminded civil servants to put integrity first in providing their services to the public.
“MBSA’s workforce is reminded to avoid from getting involved in negative practices that may tarnish their image and the organisation.
“It is my responsibility as the head of the organisation to ensure that power abuse or malpractice including bribery does not spread among MBSA’s employees.
“I will ensure MBSA’s administration runs according to procedures especially when it comes to tender processes, quotations and such matters,” he said.
