Child dies in guardhouse fire

LANGKAWI, JUNE 8: An eight-years old child’s charred remains was found while the father was injured in a guardhouse fire at a landfill in Kilim early this morning.
In the 3 a.m. incident, the victim was said to have been trapped in the guardhouse while the father who is a guard managed to escape, though sustaining head injuries.
The Kedah Malaysian Fire and Recuse Department (JBPM) said in a statement that 16 firemen from the Langkawi Bomba Department were at the scene at 3.21 a.m. and managed to put out the fire after 12 minutes.
According to the department, the identity of the victim which has yet to be ascertained, has been handed over to the police for further action.
The victim’s father has been sent to Langkawi Hospital for treatment and the cause of fire is still under investigation, according to the statement.
