Hot weather: Make sure to drink enough water

SHAH ALAM, OCT 25: The public is advised to take precautionary measures to ensure adequate water intake to prevent dehydration, especially during the current hot and dry weather.
The Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah advised the public to be alert to signs of heat stroke such as headache, swollen tongue, lack of sweat, lethargy, loss of focus and fainting.
“If any of these happens, the public should immediately seek treatment,” he said in a statement here.
According to the Meteorological Department, the hot weather phenomenon caused by typhoon Lan, now in southern Japan, is moving north and beginning to move away from the country.
That situation is causing water vapour in this country’s airspace to concentrate on the typhoon area causing temperature increase.
Noor Hisham said that Meterological Department’s definition of a normal daily temperature is between 28.6 to 35 degree Celcius and currently the maximum temperature in Peninsular Malaysia has not reached 35 degree Celcius.
Nevertheless, he said people should be prepared and take appropriate action to face the situation if the weather continually gets hotter
“The Health Ministry’s advise on this situation can be obtained from its official website.
“The Ministry also monitors the weather in Malaysia thorough the Meterological Department’s website at http://www.met.gov.my,” he said.
