SHAH ALAM – Selangor’s status as the biggest contributor to the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP) last year should be a catalyst for civil servants in the state to continue to showcase their outstanding workforce.
Selangor State Government Secretary, Dato’ Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya said the achievement should be sustained and enhanced in the future even though it was considered a major challenge to civil servants.
“Instead of seeing this as a challenge, I prefer to make this challenge for us (the public service) to be better than the private sector,” he said.
“In fact, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called on civil servants in the country to look at new challenges and disruptions not as a threat, but as an opportunity to be seized on and to improve and innovate,” he added.
Mohd Amin said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Selangor State Public Service Innovation Council (MPIPANS) 2019 at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Perak Jubilee Auditorium here on 11 September.
Also present were Selangor State Finance Officer Dato’ Nor Azmie Diron and Deputy Secretary of Government (Management), Zamani Ahmad Mansor.
Previously, Selangor recorded 23.7 per cent as contributors to the national GDP of 2018, generating growth above the national level (4.7 per cent) of 6.8 per cent.
In fact, total investment also recorded RM 18.95 billion, the highest ever recorded in the state’s history.
Commenting further, Mohd Amin said today’s society expects quality and best service from civil servants in line with time and technology.
He said the public’s expectations of civil servants were not as simple as before.
