Police arrest man for allegedly insulting King on Facebook

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — The police have arrested a man who had allegedly insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, on his Facebook page.

Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Huzir Mohamed in a statement yesterday said the 35-year-old man had allegedly posted a status insulting Al-Sultan Abdullah, using his account ‘Aaron Yee’.

“The case is investigated under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The police are also investigating the postings made by the owner of Facebook accounts under the name ‘Gavin Lee’ and ‘Haizad Azhar’ on suspicion of committing a similar offence,” he said.

He said the police were also investigating a status that contained elements of sedition uploaded by a Twitter account owner under the name ‘Fadiah Nadwa Fikiri @FadiahNadwa’.
