Allocation for Selangor assemblymen includes opposition reps

By Nadiah Zamlus

PUTRAJAYA, March 24 — The allocation for Selangor state representatives to be used for community services would be channelled to all of its 56 assemblymen, including those from the opposition pact.

Political secretary to the Selangor Menteri Besar, Borhan Aman Shah, said the allocation is to ease the burden of the people affected by the outbreak, which transcends boundaries and political differences.

“The Covid-19 Selangor Cares Package provides the state assemblymen with an increased allocation from the existing RM20,000 funds to RM30,000.

“For the opposition, the allocation is coordinated by a state-appointed legislative coordinator or a temporary coordinator among the MPs, state executive councillors, or the closest assemblyman.

“This has been a practice by the state government in the past and it is not the first time we are doing this,” he said in a statement.

Borhan was responding to the statement made by Selangor opposition leader Rizam Ismail, who had allegedly claimed that state administration had sidelined the opposition state representatives in the economic stimulus package announced on March 20.

Rizam is also the Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman.
