MB urges public to stop spreading fake news on Covid-19

SHAH ALAM, March 28 — Selangor Menteri Besar has urged the public to stop spreading fake news at a time when the country is battling the Covid-19 outbreak.

“During this critical moment, please avoid spreading unverified or fake news and memes that could cause public anxiety,” Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari wrote on his official Twitter account, today.

He said this was following a voice note that had circulated on Whatsapp yesterday, alleging infectious disease consultant Datuk Dr Christopher Lee, who is also the former Health deputy director-general, announcing the development of the Covid-19 outbreak at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, which caused public anxiety.

Earlier today, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had in a statement informed on the formation of a special committee, chaired by Dr Lee, to conduct an audit on the Covid-19 fatalities.
