With 45 pct recovery rate, Malaysia among highest in the world

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 ― Malaysia’s recovery rate for Covid-19, which stands at 45 per cent, is among the highest in the world, says the Health Ministry (MOH) today.

According to the MOH, Malaysia’s Covid-19 mortality rate stands at 1.6 per cent and is much lower than several other countries, such as Indonesia and the Philippines, which reported rates of 8.5 per cent and 5.6 per cent respectively.

“The recovery rate in Malaysia is one of the highest in the world. China has recorded the highest recovery rate with 94 per cent, followed by South Korea with 69 per cent. The average recovery rate around the world stands at 22.7 per cent.

“Italy has recorded the highest mortality rate at 12.8 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 12.4 per cent. The average global mortality rate stands at 6.1 per cent,” the ministry said on its official Twitter account today.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United States has recorded more than half a million Covid-19 cases with over 20,000 deaths since the outbreak.

As of yesterday noon, 153 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Malaysia, bringing the total number of cases to 4,683.

Yesterday, 113 patients were discharged and the total deaths stood at 76.
