Selangor allocates RM2 mln to assist youths via RiDE programmes

SHAH ALAM, July 22 — Youths, especially from the urban poor group, could improve their economy by being trained e-hailing riders through Selangor’s Roda Darul Ehsan Initiative (RiDE) with the state government allocating RM2 million for the programme.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme under the State Sports Council, was targeted to benefit about 3,000 youths, aged 17 to 30, by obtaining a category B2 motorcycle licence with a subsidy of RM350 for each of them.

“E-hailing seems to have become a trend, particularly during the movement control order period where many youths were involved in it.

“As such, the state government is supportive of youths, especially those trapped in urban poverty, to gain from this programme to enable them to claw out of poverty,” he told reporters after launching the RiDE programme, here, yesterday.

Amirudin said besides offering the motorcycle licence, the RiDE programme also provided training to the participants so that they could become competent e-hailing riders and able to meet the criteria as required by the hiring companies.

He said the RiDE programme would open for applications from Aug 1 and it was expected that by the year-end, the initiative could start producing trained e-hailing riders and consequently, help improve the economy of poor urban youths.

Youths interested to participate in the RiDE programme could visit www.msnselangor.gov.my for information on the conditions set for eligibility.
