Strong earthquake in South Sumatera, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck southern Sumatera, Indonesia at 6.29am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred at 131 kilometres southwest of Bengkulu, Indonesia, with a depth of 84 kilometres.

The quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
