GSC raises awareness on autism with special movie screening and bazaar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — As part of its corporate social responsibility and ongoing efforts to use its platforms as a voice for good, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) continues to raise awareness for autism with its latest campaign called “We Are All Special”.

The campaign kicks off with the release of the French movie, ‘The Specials’, which will screen on September 24 in 23 GSC cinemas nationwide including the Aurum Theatre, a statement from GSC said.

‘The Specials’ – which is based on a true story – is filmed by renowned French directors, Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano. The film brings audiences into the world of Bruno and Malik, who look after autistic children and troubled teenagers respectively.

Both Bruno and Malik train youngsters from difficult neighbourhoods to care for autism cases categorised as “extremely complex”; delivering a wonderfully-woven tale of friendship, determination, and connection.

A ticket is priced at RM15, and RM1 from every ticket sold will be donated to selected autism charities and organisations, the statement said.

‘The Specials’ is exclusively available at GSC. It added that companies and organisations that are keen to host private screenings of the film or even host their own fundraiser to give back to an autism charity of their choice may also book a hall to watch ‘The Specials’.

In conjunction with the campaign, GSC is also organising a charity bazaar showcasing goods made by children and young adults from the Autism Cafe Project (ACP) on Sept 27 and Oct 4 from 11am to 6pm.

An exhibition of artwork by autistic Malaysian artists at Aurum Theatre at The Gardens Mall from Sept 24 to Oct 7 will also be held.

In support of the campaign, GSC has also produced an exclusive shirt in royal blue, featuring the “We Are All Special” tagline. Available at RM29.90 per piece, this shirt will be on sale at the bazaar, as well as sold online via Keepsake at shop.gsc.com.my.

Like ‘The Specials’, the sale of each shirt will also see RM1 donated to selected charities and autism-focused organisations, the statement said.
