MPS launches Batu Caves guidebook

SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has launched a 116-paged book titled ‘Batu Caves’, which will be handed over to the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) as a source of reference.

MPS president Shamsul Shahril Badliza Mohd Noor said the book was based on the research analysis and written by the Malaysian Caves & Karsts Conservancy (MCKC) members, led by Dr Ruth Kiew, Dr Ros Fatihah and Dr Atiqah.

“The book contains scientific explanations and information on the various biodiversity and flora and fauna species found in Batu Caves as well as other studies.

“I hope this book will be a useful form of reference for the society,” he said during the officiation ceremony of the Batu Caves Scientific Expedition Symposium programme organised by MCKC at PPAS in Gombak, yesterday.

Shamsul Shahril said the programme would provide insights to the society on the functions of the limestone formation and biodiversity of Batu Caves.

“This (book) would create awareness on the preservation and conservation of historical as well as cultural values of the area for the next generation.

“Aside from that, MPS is also currently drafting a Cave Management Plan under the Selangor Tourism Purification Programme (P3S),” he said, adding that the cave symposium also gives focus to the importance of the needs and security of sustainable zones.
