Negeri Sembilan JPJ issues 351 summonses in crackdown on heavy vehicles

SEREMBAN, Oct 16 — The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 351 summonses in a crackdown on heavy vehicles in Nilai, near here.

Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the three-day special operation involving 58 officers and personnel which began on Tuesday, focused on vehicles carrying overloaded goods, apart from other offences.

“A total of 858 goods service vehicles were inspected and 44 of them have been weighed, a total of 351 summonses have been issued on these goods transport vehicles covering various offences,” he said in a statement here today.

Carrying cargo in excess of the prescribed weight is an offence under Section 57 (1) (b) (vi) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, and offenders could face a fine of no less than RM1,000 and no more than RM5,000, or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both, upon conviction.

Azrin also reminded all road users, including drivers and owners of freight vehicles, to always abide by the set regulations for the safety of themselves and others.
