MB: RM5.85 mln allocation only for tourism promotion

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — The allocation of RM5.85 million in the 2021 Selangor Budget, to develop and revitalise the tourism sector, is solely for the purpose of tourism promotion, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the allocation provided did not include operating expenditure, as a separate provision has been set apart to be managed by Tourism Selangor.

“The state government has the Tourism Selangor agency for the purpose of managing and the amount I mentioned is for the purpose of tourism promotions only,” he said in reply to a question raised by Persatuan Pengembaraan dan Pelancongan Selangor (SAFTTA) president Dr Fathir Badri Alhadad.

Fathir in a statement yesterday expressed disappointed with the total tourism allocation for the state in the state budget which was deemed small in comparison to the Penang government’s RM14.11 million allocation for its tourism sector.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after the post-flood visit and gotong-royong programme at Taman Sri Nanding community hall in Kuala Langat here, yesterday.

At the event, he also handed over basic necessities to households affected during the recent floods.
