Yayasan Selangor write off RM7.7 million in student loans

SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — The Yayasan Selangor has written off RM7.7 million in student loans for 762 of its sponsored students.

The decision was approved during the Yayasan Selangor Board of Trustees Meeting on October 7 last year.

The students involved are:

  • Those from the year 1985 to 2012
  • Certificate, diploma and degree levels at the public and private institution of higher learning

Apart from that, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had also launched the Selangor People’s Tuition Centre Portal to help students in digital learning.

With an allocation of RM250,000, the programme launched on January 16 benefits the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Pendidikan Malaysia examination candidates.

The portal contains:

  • Learning videos from trained teachers
  • Techniques for answering examination questions
  • Modules that can be downloaded in PDF format

Implemented by the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), as of February 7, a total of 5,095 students had registered with 155 registrations recorded from other states.

Social media influencer Iman Troye was also involved in the programme’s promotional video.
