AMPANG, March 7 — Selangor state assemblymen and parliament members (MP) will be receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine starting next week through the national immunisation plan.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the elected representatives were selected to get vaccinated in the first phase as they will be involved in the distribution process of the vaccines to the public in the following phases.

“Due to time constraint, they did not take the vaccine along with the state executive councillors last Thursday and were given a week to get it at the vaccination centres designated by the Health Ministry (MOH) and selected hospitals,” said Amirudin when met by reporters at the Jelajah Kita Selangor programme at Tokong Kau Ong Yah, here today.

Earlier, Amirudin had presented RM1,000 mock cheques to eight temples in the Bukit Antarabangsa constituency for them to carry out community activities.

Food donations were also handed out to 100 low-income families (B40) to lessen the burden of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

On February 21, a total of 312,390 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Belgium.

The first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme covers frontliners followed by high-risk groups, the elderly, vulnerable groups, people with disabilities (OKU) and adults aged 18 years and above.

Selangor received 78,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, which will be administered to frontline workers and elected representatives and frontline and to be distributed in stages according to target or interest groups.
