RM3.23 mln worth of coffee beans from Colombia seized at North Port

SHAH ALAM, April 3 — The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) Department seized 173,074 kilogrammes of coffee beans from Colombia, valued at RM3.23 million, at the North Port, Klang, for breach of the import permit.

Acting Selangor Maqis director Zamri Hisham said the consignment was seized during a routine inspection at 11am last Thursday.

Following inspection, it was found that the consignment did not comply with the import conditions issued by Maqis,” he said in a statement today.

He said failure to comply with the permit conditions is an offence under Section 15(10 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, where offenders can be fined a maximum of RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years or both, upon conviction.
