Community infection rate stable, but don’t get complacent, says exco

HULU LANGAT, May 11 —The Selangor community screening programme revealed that the Covid-19 infection rate among the state’s population is at below five per cent in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

However, state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud advised the public to remain vigilant and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the fourth wave of outbreaks.

“Screenings at the Semenyih, Kajang, Sungai Ramal and Balakong state constituencies shows that the infection rate in the community is still stable but we cannot become complacent.

“If there are many positive cases, this means there are still many cases that have not been detected in the community,” she said after visiting the Covid-19 screening program here yesterday.

The Selangor government is conducting a monitoring programme from May 8 to June 10 to trace active Covid-19 cases across the state.

The programme had begun with the free screenings in Kajang and Semenyih on May 8, followed by Sungai Ramal, Balakong, Teratai and Dusun Tua yesterday, with the cost fully borne by the state government.

The state government has allocated a total of RM6 million for the free Covid-19 community testing initiative.

The programme targets the involvement of 50,000 residents covering high-density areas and low-income groups.
