SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — The Selangor government has extended its RM1,000 death benefit aid to the next of kin of Covid-19 patients who succumbed to the infection until the end of the year with an additional RM1 million allocation.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision, which would benefit 1,000 families, was made during the Selangor State Executive Council meeting held yesterday.

“During the meeting, we decided to extend the RM1,000 death benefit aid to the next of kin of those who died of Covid-19.

“Initially RM1.5 million was allocated for the programme, it is now increased by another RM1 million,” he said during a virtual press conference on the current vaccination status and efforts in Selangor, aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook.

Amirudin said the RM1.5 million allocated under the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 had benefitted 1,500 families who had registered for the aid before its closing date on August 31.

“We had increased it due to the rise in fatalities as well as applications submitted. The application process is now extended until December 31,” he said.

The application procedure and disbursement of the cash aid are managed by Selcare.

On June 9, Amiruddin announced the incentive as one of the 14 initiatives under the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 worth RM551.56 million, which was introduced to safeguard the welfare of the people and their survival in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
