SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Water supply in five regions inclusive of 463 areas, which has been disrupted since Tuesday following the odour pollution detected in Sungai Semenyih, has been fully restored at 6am today, says Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).
Its corporate communications head Elina Baseri in a statement this morning said Air Selangor appreciated the cooperation the consumers gave during the unscheduled water disruption period.
Yesterday, state executive councillor Hee Loy Sian said early findings from water samples collected at Sungai Semenyih revealed the possibility of effluent discharge by irresponsible parties, which led to the temporary closure of the water treatment plant on Tuesday.
He said the incident is believed to have occurred between 1am and 7am on Tuesday after the water level rose due to heavy rain upstream.
A total of 463 areas in five regions, namely Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas) were hit by the unscheduled water cuts.
