MCO no barrier for Selangor to remain as preferred investment destination

SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — Selangor continues to remain strong as Malaysia’s investment destination and economic powerhouse, despite being pressured for almost five months during the movement control order (MCO) last year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this was proven when the state recorded encouraging revenue collections through its digitisation strategy and commitment of civil servants in 2020.

“Alhamdulillah, Selangor managed to record encouraging revenue results. Selangor continues to remain strong as an investment destination and the country’s economic powerhouse,” he said on Facebook today.

On November 8, Amirudin said this year, Selangor could achieve its RM2.2 billion revenue collection target despite various challenges.

He said the total revenue collection had reached 95 per cent as of November 7 and there was still a period until the end of this year.

“According to records, it may come to at least RM2.1 billion but we still have a chance to reach the target like last year which recorded a surplus of RM2.23 billion,” he said.

Amirudin said the proceeds would enable the state government to spend funds for the people, especially on the recovery process following the impact of Covid-19.
