HULU LANGAT, Dec 30 — The post-flood cleanup efforts in Hulu Langat is given more focus as the area was worst hit by the recent floods.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the district suffered serious damage, which was followed by Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam and Kampung Bukit Lanchong in Subang Jaya.

“As the area is heavily populated, we need to focus more on the cleanup process in Hulu Langat due to the extensive damages sustained by the floods.

“Other areas were also submerged and had suffered damages but it was not as severe compared to here,” said Amirudin after participating in the post-flood cleaning process in Taman Sri Nanding, here.

Also present were state executive councillor for youth development Mohd Khairuddin Othman and Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei.

Amirudin said that the cleanup efforts have run smoothly and waste collection operations were also increased.

“The strategy to set up temporary transfer stations (TS) for bulk waste had been helpful as more garbage was collected. Other than waste, we are also looking into how to clean the mud residue before it dries up and becomes thick dust,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin had visited the landslide area in Genting Peras before deploying an aid team to the Orang Asli village at Pekan Batu 18 here.

The torrential rain from December 17 until 19 had resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres and caused severe flooding in several locations in Selangor.
