SERDANG, Jan 13 — The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj conferred degrees to 945 graduates, at the 44th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) today.
The ceremony, which took place at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Culture Centre Hall, proceeded smoothly in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said to date, a total of 5,695 graduates have received their degrees and diplomas.
He said a total of 398 graduates received their Doctor of Philosophy degree, Masters (1,093), Bachelor’s degree (3,544) and diplomas (660 graduates).
He also said for this session, the university had successfully produced 11 pioneering Masters of Entrepreneurship graduates.
“I believe, today’s success could be a catalyst for graduates to make significant contributions to their families, communities and the country, in whatever fields they venture into,” he said in his speech at the event.
Meanwhile, he said UPM is always committed to sustaining the volunteering programme, especially in helping its members, especially employees and students affected by disasters through the ‘Putra Cakna’ initiative under the banner of Putra Bakti.
“A total of 60 flood aid missions were initiated by UPM’s ‘Pusat Tanggungjawab’ (Responsibility Centre) involving almost 2,000 volunteers comprising students and staff,” he said.
Mohd Roslan also expressed his appreciation to the UPM population who had successfully inspired flood victims to not despair because of the recent floods, especially those in Selangor.
“In line with the university’s motto ‘With Knowledge We Serve’ (Berilmu Berbakti), this is the value of empathy and the spirit of togetherness and belonging that we want to nurture and preserve among the students and members of this university in general,” he said.
