Digital parking proves immensely convenient, no scratchable coupons needed

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — The full implementation of the digital parking system (e-coupon) which came into effect at all local authorities in Selangor today has been well-received by the public.

Private sector worker Nabila Husna Abd Halim, 27, said the Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) app has made the payment process much faster compared to the usage of physical coupons.

“Many residents are now capable of using smartphones. If we used paper coupons but forgot to pay we would have to go back to our vehicles to do so but the e-coupons allow us to immediately make payments.

“Once you download SSP, users do not have to worry about paying for parking. Just open the app and make the payment on the spot. The system is also fast,” she said.

Factory technician Mohd Fhadil Jaiman, 50, said the initiative has helped many to save time, compared to the previous method which required the public to purchase different parking coupons based on the local authorities.

“If we use coupons, sometimes the paper can be scratched out. Then you would have to go around looking for agents who sell coupons, which takes a long time. With e-coupons we can avoid getting compounded, so using them is very convenient,” he said.

Meanwhile, senior citizen Zaki Bilatenek, 64, asked the local authorities to place personnel in parking areas so the public can obtain more information on the implementation of e-coupons.

“At this stage, there are still users who have not downloaded the app, which may cause difficulties in paying for parking in the future.

“This is important, especially for the elderly or those who do not know how to use technology. So the personnel for local authorities should be around for a while to teach them and to provide information,” he said.

The SSP app can be downloaded from Google’s Playstore, Apple’s Appstore or Huawei’s AppGallery.

Earlier on, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the implementation of the e-coupon system has helped the state government to detect crowded localities which also serves to facilitate the planning of various amenities in the future.
