June 21 for mention of couple charged with murdering four-year-old boy

KUCHING, May 9 — The Magistrate’s Court here today set June 21 for mention of a case involving a married couple charged with murdering a four-year-old boy.

Lower Court assistant registrar Dora Undau set the date when the case came up for mention today following an application by the prosecution pending a chemist report.

The couple, Ling Kok Liang, 51, and wife Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 36, as guardians of the child, Eric Chang Wei Jiw, was charged with murdering the boy at No 1493, Lorong 2, Taman Riverview, Jalan Daya, Bintawa, Kuching here, between 5pm last March 4 and 9.15 am on March 8.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides the death sentence upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Tan Chuan Yi, while the couple was unrepresented.
