SHAH ALAM, May 25 — A total of 20,000 lampam (tinfoil barb) fish fry were released into the Taman Rekreasi Warisan lake in Puchong recently as an initiative to conserve the environment and protect its ecosystem.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the inaugural programme was aimed at increasing the community awareness of the importance of rearing native fish as opposed to imported fish or other animals that risk endangering aquatic life.

“The release of the fish fry in the park is seen as appropriate as the location is a hub for community activities which is often visited by locals.

“We ask residents who come to do their sports or leisure activities to take part in caring for the environment and preserving the environmental quality,” he told SelangorKini.

Ng, who is also Kinrara state assemblyman, hoped that the effort would be followed with the support from all parties.

“The fish fry was sponsored by the Fisheries Department. Subang Jaya mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar also participated in the release of the fish fry,” he said.
