Sultan of Selangor reappointed UPM chancellor

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has been reappointed as the chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented to the appointment of Sultan Sharafuddin as the chancellor from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2029, UPM said in a statement today.

UPM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Roslan Sulaiman handed over the letter of appointment to Sultan Sharafuddin at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam recently.

Sultan Sharafuddin was first appointed UPM chancellor in 2002 and to date, has made many meaningful contributions to the university, especially in the context of championing the agriculture, research and alumni agendas.

The statement quoted Mohd Roslan as saying that the reappointment of Sultan Sharafuddin could strengthen UPM as a leading university and achieve the mission of contributing to the prosperity and development of the country as well as the people’s well-being through exploration and knowledge dissemination.

“UPM’s excellence in the field of agriculture is also very much emphasised by Tuanku Canselor so that the university can become a leader and a referral centre in the field,” the statement reads.
