PETALING JAYA, July 15 — The National Library of Singapore has emulated the BooksFly2U service that was launched by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) two years ago.
PPAS director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said the library started providing book loans via e-call a few months ago.
“We had previously shared with them the concept that we use in the service, where we only use human force instead of developing any applications or spending any money.
“They were intrigued and started offering the service to Singaporeans. In September, they will also visit the rural libraries in Selangor,” she said when met after a dinner event in conjunction with the PPAS Golden Jubilee at the Le Meridien Hotel, here last night.
Mastura said that the number of users of BooksFly2U are anticipated to increase to 8,000 by the end of this year.
“We currently have over 4,000 users, and in order to reach our goal, we will step up service promotion.
“The service is simple because the customer may select whether they want to pick up the books at the library or have them sent by courier,” she added.
The BooksFly2U service was introduced on July 16, 2020, after taking into account the public’s need for physical reading materials from the library, particularly during the movement control order.
The service is available daily from 9am to 5pm, excluding public holidays, and borrowers can place orders via Whatsapp at 0108491488 or call 0355197667.
Library staff will arrange for the books to be delivered within two days, with the delivery fee borne by the borrower.
