SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — A total of 29,276 metric tonnes of agricultural yields were contributed by 12 Permanent Food Production Parks (TKPM) in Selangor every year.

State executive councillor for agriculture and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said the yields include various types of vegetables, fruits, industrial plants and cash crops, with a return of RM43.3 million.

“Some 363 participants have joined the crop projects under the Selangor State Agriculture Department with a total land of 1,351.45 hectares,” he said when answering a query from Kuala Kubu Bharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Izham added that all the parks are still active and there are no abandoned projects except for Bestari Jaya in Kuala Selangor.

“The 57-hectares park was suspended for two years as the area involved with the Hybrid Off River Augmentation Storage (Horas) 3000,” he said.

Izham said the size of agricultural land in Selangor has decreased by 5.3 per cent, compared to a total 298,548 hectares of land in 2012.

“At this moment, paddy field areas in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor involve 18,610 hectares of land, aside from 13 TKPM with a land size of 1,086 hectares, TKPM livestock (622 hectares) and TKPM aquaculture including cockles (5,171 hectares).

“Therefore, it has been proposed that 76,574 hectares of land, equivalent to 10 per cent of total land size in Selangor must be retained as the area for food agriculture,” he said.
