SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor and Her Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor have encouraged the people of Selangor to continue appreciating the true meaning of Independence.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also requested the people nurture a sense of love for the nation, and strengthen the spirit of patriotism towards the land and its people.
“I hope the people will not forget history by forgetting the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us in achieving Malaysia’s independence.
“By knowing the history of the nation itself, Malaysians can better plan her future and with more efficiency,” said His Highness in a Facebook post, in conjunction with the 65th National Day celebrations this year.
The statement, shared on Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, also expressed Sultan Sharafuddin’s wish for the people to live in harmony, respect, unity and mutual tolerance.
His Royal Highness also called upon the people to join hands in strengthening the economy and developing Malaysia, as well as avoid mixing political, racial and religious issues that could divide the people.
“Most importantly, I remind all the people constantly remain vigilant against elements within and without the country that can bring destruction upon what we enjoy now,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
