Public health issues remain a priority — MB

By Mustakim Ramli

KAJANG, Sept 5 — The Selangor government will continue placing public health concerns and awareness at the forefront in the coming years for the benefit of the Selangor people.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said since the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago, the importance of public health issues has increased.

He said the state has initiated several free health programmes for the people including the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), Selangor Saring and Selangor Mental Health (Sehat).

“During the pandemic, we have carried out (free) Covid-19 screenings and in the future, should we continue administering the state, we would ensure that more health programmes would be implemented,” he said during the Lantern Festival at Taman Rekreasi Bandar Mahkota, here last night.

Amirudin added that the state government has also recently introduced an insurance scheme that offers wider coverage to safeguard the people.

“We want to provide the Selangor people with safety as we realised how many people were affected and had succumbed to Covid-19.

“Therefore, beginning next month, we will introduce the Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan) general insurance scheme, under which the state government would pay the premiums,” he said.

On August 30, the Menteri Besar announced that six million people in Selangor would benefit from the insurance programme.

Offering coverage to those from 30 days old to the elderly at 80, Insan seeks to ease the burden of those facing a myriad of problems with a coverage of up to RM10,000 and an estimated total protection value of RM60 billion.

To qualify for protection under Insan, the recipient must either be born in Selangor or be a voter in the state.

Registration for Insan will be open from October 1.
