KAJANG, Sept 16 — Sungai Ramal state representative Mazwan Johar has expressed plans to market locally grown goods from community farms at the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat programme in the future.

He said that he will ensure that the vegetables grown by the locals in his constituency are different from the products sold by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS).

“Currently, we are still identifying farmers, especially those who manage the community farms. Certainly, the price will be lower than the market price.

“We want to deal directly with the farmers and avoid using the middlemen so that the prices would be lower,” he said when met at the roadshow held at Kompleks PKNS in Bandar Baru Bangi, here today.

During the programme, Mazwan also handed out RM5 discount coupons to the first 100 visitors where the costs for the rebate were paid for in full by him.

“This is one of the efforts to ease people’s load and to appreciate those who turn up early in the morning despite the sale only starting at 9am,” he said.

Meanwhile, the programme’s director Mohd Bukhari Bachok said that all of the items on sale were sold out within an hour after the event started.

“300 chickens, fresh meat, mackerel fish, and eggs were sold out within an hour during the event.

“The overwhelming responses were due to extensive promotion by PKPS and the public started queuing from 8.30am,” he said.

Selangor has allocated an additional RM10 million to continue the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat initiative in all 56 state constituencies from August 31 to December 31.

On August 30, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the programme would focus on six basic items, namely chicken, beef, fish, chicken eggs, rice and cooking oil.
