SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — The Independent Living Support Center (ILCS) programme has offered eight disabled youths the opportunity to offer to follow a bakery and sewing course, said the state executive councillor of women and family development Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
She said the initiative, offered through the Anak Istimewa Selangor (ANIS) Department, will be carried out at Rumah Amal Chesire in Selayang, sometime next week.
“It is my pleasure to announce that after attending a study session of a maximum of six months, the students will be awarded a certificate equivalent to Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3.
“They will also be guaranteed employment, in accordance to the courses they followed,” said Dr Siti Mariah in a Facebook post.
The offer letters for the courses were personally handed over by the councillor to the students, aged 18 to 25, during a ceremony at Rumah Amal Cheshire on February 2.
She expressed hopes the initiative will benefit disabled persons once they have completed their schooling, so they can continue to live normally and obtain good jobs.
“InsyaAllah, they will be provided with certain skills to face work challenges and to survive in the future,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
The state government has allocated RM1 million to realise ILCS, which offers skills courses like sewing, bakery, office management, digital technology, and artificial intelligence, with the aim of increasing employment opportunities for these groups.
On August 16 last year, Dr Siti Mariah said Selangor plans to establish an ILSC branch in each of the state’s districts, to provide training and skills to the disabled.
