SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost Of Living (KPDN) Ministry has estimated that over restaurants and eateries in the state have registered to offer Menu Rahmah to customers, since its launch on January 31.
Its director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said some 200 premises are already offering Menu Rahman, with the rest to follow in the near future.
“Selangor has the highest number of traders among all the states who wish to offer Menu Rahmah to customers. Despite its RM5 price, many are interested in helping the community.
“However, we do not yet have comprehensive data, but which will from time to time as more traders sign up,” he said.
Mohd Zuhairi was speaking at the state-level launch of Menu Rahmah, which was officiated by state executive councillor for consumer affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, and held simultaneously at Kafe Sentral in Section 14 and at Restoran Deli Thai in Section 7.
He added that Selangor KPDN will carry out daily monitoring to ensure the meals on offer are nutritious and of good quality, in accordance with regulations.
The Federal government recently introduced Menu Rahmah, which offers meals priced at RM5 and below, specifically for the hardcore poor.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the public can now enjoy lunch and dinner for RM5 per plate, at nearly 15,000 food premises nationwide from January 31 onwards.
The ministry is open to any organisation seeking to utilise the Rahmah brand, on the condition that it aims to help the people. Menu Rahmah providers offering food for as low as RM5 must ensure the quality of the food they are selling is maintained.
