New Zealand open cancelled till 2026 – BWF

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — The New Zealand Open Badminton Championships has been cancelled until 2026, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced today.

BWF in a statement said, Badminton New Zealand has relinquished its hosting rights for the World Tour Super 300 tournament for the next four years.

“The national governing body concluded it was no longer feasible for them to deliver the tournament. Following conversations with the BWF, it was agreed that it was necessary to cancel the tournament until the end of the current hosting cycle 2023-2026,” BWF said.

Based on the 2023 tournament calendar released by BWF last year, the New Zealand Open has been scheduled to be held in Auckland from August 8 to 13, two days after the conclusion of the Super 500 Australia Open.

The New Zealand Open was last held in 2019 when Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying clinched the mixed doubles title, before it was cancelled in 2020, 2021 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its related complications.
