SHAH ALAM, March 15 — The Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) introduced by the Selangor government to coordinate the state’s water sources holistically is 40.8 per cent complete as of February 28.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the project consists of four primary packages that are carried out in phases and is expected to complete by the end of the year.

“Package A, which began on June 24 last year, is at 26.91 per cent (completion), while package B, which started on December 20, 2021, is at 52.3 per cent.

“As for package C, which kicked off on November 5, 2021, has 45.36 per cent and dan package D began on December 20, 2021, and is at 54.61 per cent,” he said when answering a question by Seri Kembangan state representative Ean Yong Hian Wah during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.

Hee said that the water security scheme involves two phases — the first phase focuses on preventing river pollution incidents in Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat, while the second phase is to ensure sufficient raw water supply during the dry season.

He said Under Phase 1, the people are guaranteed to have a continuous and uninterrupted water supply in the event of contamination of the raw water sources in Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat.

“As for Phase 2, the state government is focusing on the holistic Water Resource Management Programme to ensure sufficient water storage to cover the demand at hand,” he said.

The 2023 Selangor Budget has allocated RM332 million for the SJAM project, which includes RM100 million to ensure the ongoing operations of water treatment plants (WTPs) in the event of pollution.

The scheme also includes several other strategic measures, including the amendment of the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) Enactment and the surveillance of river basins by the Luas Rapid Squad (Skuad Pantas).

The following four packages under the SJAM project:

Package A: Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the pumping system and other related works at the HORAS Pool 600 Kampong Sungai Darah, Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor

Package B: Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the pumping system and other related works at the Rantau Panjang WTP water intake, Kuala Selangor

Package C: River diversion construction works, supply, installation, testing and commissioning and other related works at the side of SSP1, SSP2 and SSP3 WTPs in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor.

Package D: Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the pumping system and other related works at the Sungai Semenyih WTP water intake, Jenderam Hilir.
