Floods recede in Muar district, number of flood victims in Johor drop to 33,245

JOHOR BAHRU, March 15 — Muar district is reported to have completely recovered from the flood situation while the number of flood victims in Johor dropped significantly.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), the latest development in Muar saw the number of flood victims at temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in three districts drop from 35,230 as at 4pm to 33,245 as at 8pm tonight.

The JPBN said as of 8pm tonight, 107 PPS remained open in Batu Pahat, Tangkak and Segamat.

“Batu Pahat has the highest number of flood victims with 33,146 from 9,407 families, followed by Segamat with 75 (23 families) and Tangkak has 24 victims from three families,” said JPBN in the statement.

The Disaster Management Secretariat in Batu Pahat when contacted by Bernama tonight said the flood situation was improving in several areas of the district.

“We are expecting more flood victims to be allowed to return home. Even the weather condition has improved,” said the Secretariat.

Good weather is forecast in all 10 districts of the state tonight.
