KUALA SELANGOR, May 18 — The state’s water supply capacity can last up to six months if the ongoing hot weather persists, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said this is derived from the supply in seven dams, with all recording over 95 per cent water levels at present.
“If it does not rain, we can last between four to six months. Currently, some of the dams themselves are at a near-full level.
“In spite of the El Niño phenomenon, we are still experiencing rainfall, which can replenish the water supply,” Amirudin said after officiating the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) project at the Riverside Hybrid Improvement System (HORAS) 600 site, earlier today.
The Menteri Besar added that Selangor also has water supply from 98 reservoirs which can last up to two months, in the event the dams’ capacity diminishes due to the hot weather.
“These are all steps that will be taken if a drought occurs. We will drain and channel the water from the reservoirs to the rivers, which can last for two months,” he said.
