Nutrition carnival for children in each district to highlight healthy diet

KLANG, Oct 15 — The Selangor Child Nutrition Programme (Asas) Carnival will be organised in nine districts in the state to address child growth and development issues.

Selangor public health advisor Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli said the programme aims to raise awareness among parents about the importance of providing balanced nutrition to children to address issues of stunted growth and obesity.

“The Asas Carnival is a continuation of the previous programme where we provided nutritious food packages directly to selected individuals. However, this time, we are organising a carnival with various engaging activities, like healthy cooking demonstrations.

“We hope this raises awareness among parents to prepare nutritious meals for their children,” he said during the Asas Carnival at SK (1) Jalan Batu Tiga yesterday.

Concerning the event, Dr Farhan said such an interactive approach is more appealing to both parents and children.

“Among the activities at the carnival are nutrition and mental health counselling, health exhibitions, and free health screenings for children.

“Alhamdulillah, the response has been quite encouraging. Children prefer this approach, with many games and competitions, instead of receiving brochures that might be somewhat boring,” he said.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said around 2,800 children from low-income families in Selangor would receive nutritious food assistance.

The initiative, via Asas, includes providing full-cream powdered milk, biscuits, cereals, and multivitamins, utilising a RM500,000 allocation.
