Higher Education Ministry reappoints USM, UKM, UTM vice-chancellors

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) announced the reappointment of three vice-chancellors of public universities today, including Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

It said the reappointments are to enable the continuation of the implementation of the strategic plan developed to drive the universities’ academic development and research.

The reappointment of Prof Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamed as USM vice-chancellor is for two years, from January 14, 2024, to January 13, 2026.

Prof Datuk Mohd Ekhwan Toriman has been reappointed as UKM vice-chancellor from January 2, 2024, to January 1, 2025, while Prof Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Ismail has been reappointed as UTM vice-chancellor from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

“MOHE is confident that the three vice-chancellors are capable of shouldering the responsibilities given to drive the excellence of their respective universities as the country’s leading research universities,” said the ministry in a statement.
